How to see your step history on iPhone
Your iPhone saves every day's step count in the Health app. Open Health, tap Browse, then Activity, then Steps, and switch between D, W, M, 6M and Y to see a day, week, month, six months or a year. Tap or drag across the chart to read the total for a single day.
Find past steps in the Health app
- Open the Health app.
- Tap Browse at the bottom, then Activity, then Steps. (If Steps is pinned to your Summary, you can tap it there.)
- Pick a range at the top: D (day, by hour), W (week), M (month), 6M or Y.
- Touch and hold the chart, then slide your finger to read each bar. Swipe the chart sideways to go back to earlier weeks or months.
Flights Climbed and Walking + Running Distance live in the same Activity list and work the same way.
How many steps did I walk yesterday?
In Health, open Steps, tap W and hold your finger on yesterday's bar. In Footprints, open the List tab: yesterday is the second card from the top, with its steps, floors, distance and the percentage of your goal.
See every day at once with Footprints
The Health chart shows one bar at a time when you touch it. Footprints lays your history out so you can read it without touching anything:
- List: one card per day with steps, floors and distance, plus the share of your daily goal. A green check marks each day you hit it.
- Calendar: a goal ring for every day of the month. Switch the rings between Steps, Goal, Distance and Floors to spot your best and worst days.
- Chart: one bar per day with your goal line drawn across. Bars turn yellow or red on days you fall short. Scroll sideways to go back in time.
The first time you open Footprints, it imports up to 365 days of steps from Apple Health, so the calendar and chart start full instead of empty.
How far back does iPhone step history go?
Health keeps your step data on your iPhone for as long as you keep it, and it carries over to a new iPhone when you restore from an encrypted backup or turn on Health in iCloud. Steps only exist for the days your iPhone (or an Apple Watch) was counting, so a gap usually means the phone stayed on a desk that day or Fitness Tracking was turned off.

Questions
Where are my steps on iPhone?
In the Health app: Browse, then Activity, then Steps. Footprints shows the same numbers as one card per day, a calendar of goal rings and a bar chart.
Can I see my steps for a specific date?
Yes. In Health, open Steps, choose W or M and hold your finger on that day's bar. In Footprints, scroll the List tab to the date or tap the day in the Calendar tab.
Does deleting a step app delete my step history?
No. Your steps are stored by Apple Health, not by Footprints. Footprints reads them, so removing it leaves your history in Health.
Footprints shows your steps, floors and distance against a daily goal, as a list, a calendar of goal rings and a chart. Free with ads.
